Mount Kapplan - Mount Klappan Environmental Assessment
Rescan Environmental Services Ltd. and Rescan-Tahltan Environmental Consultants were retained by Fortune to conduct environmental studies for the Lost Fox development and supervise the Environmental Assessment process and mine permitting. Significant environmental work was carried out in 2005 to augment work previously done by Gulf. Most of the work was performed by companies owned by the Tahltan Nation, or companies that included significant participation from the local Iskut, Dease Lake and Telegraph Creek Tahltan communities. The 2005 programs consisted of a 24-hole, 3,000 metre drilling program designed to collect rock and water samples for chemical and geotechnical characterization. In addition, comprehensive studies of hydrology, wildlife, vegetation and aquatic biology, archaeology, meteorology, socioeconomic and First Nation traditional were carried out and similar studies and detailed access road engineering are continuing in 2006. Fortune has also been working with the Gitxsan, Skii Km Lax Ha and Nisga First Nations, whose traditional territories include the Mount Klappan transportation corridors. Fortune plans to enter into Impact and Benefits Agreements with the Tahltan Nation and other First Nations where operations might impact their traditional territories.
